Frozen |
Director: Adam Green
Stars: Shawn Ashmore, Emma Bell, Kevin Zegers (Full Cast)
Studio: Anchor Bay Films
The Plot: Three snowboarders become stranded on a chairlift at a ski resort. Realizing it'll be a week before the resort opens again, they are forced to make a series of life-or-death decisions.
THE BUZZ: Director Adam Green is best known amongst horror fans for Hatchet, but that just might change come February when Frozen is shipped to theaters right after its Sundance "debut" (the movie's actual world premiere was at Harry Knowles' 2009 Butt-Numb-a-Thon). The earliest reviews are strong (check one, two) and the post-festival buzz should follow suit. Personally, we're looking forward to the CGI-less action and the mysteries that await on the ground (we hear said surprises are Cabin Fever-level repulsive and awesome).
From Paris with Love |
Director: Pierre Morel
Stars: John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Full Cast)
Studio: Lionsgate
The Plot: In Paris, a young employee in the office of the US Ambassador (Myers) hooks up with an American spy (Travolta) looking to stop a terrorist attack in the city.
THE BUZZ: "From the director of Taken" sure is an exciting phrase, but somehow this looks worse than the clanging, repellant, and underperforming Taking of Pelham 1 2 3: agree or disagree?
Dear John |
Director: Lasse Hallström
Stars: Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried, Richard Jenkins (Full Cast)
Studio: Sony Pictures Releasing
The Plot: A romantic drama about a soldier (Tatum) who falls for a co-ed (Seyfried) while he's home on leave. Their relationship is tested in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks, an event that causes him to re-enlist for service.
THE BUZZ: Lasse Hallstrom is a perfect director pick for this adaptation of the novel by Nicholas Sparks, the John Grisham of romantic drama. Herein, Channing Tatum earns a chance to flex his dramatic abdominals, Amanda Seyfried wipes away her tears for what will be her weepy year (get ready for her Letters to Juliet in May), and Richard Jenkins lines up a potential second Oscar nomination for his part as supportive parent.
